the red onion hides the sun behind it this Thursday afternoon as I lie across this park bench and stare deeply through the creases in my hand a gypsy woman starts to tear apart her soapbox leaving me completely stranded as the world darkens around me; I’m all alone she said, “it’s nothing against you it’s just a personal quest” the veil came down around me like some kind of ugly bride all the windows closed and shattered, all the tools grew legs and ran away and ghosts and witches danced around me as my enemy emerged but before I drew my gun, a reptile with a fruit caressed my ear he said, “it’s nothing against you it’s just a personal quest” my hair stood straight like a Christian man as I tread this dark and dreary path I came across a steaming pond, I saw some fish and a reflection of a girl then it was washed away by a crossdressing bison herd and while they applied their lipstick, I screamed, “why oh why would you trick me in this way?” they said, “it’s nothing against you it’s just a personal quest” the gypsy and the devil and the busty buffalo collide but the crossroads where they met fell directly on a spider web the sun came up at dawn to help and harden the sticky glue the gypsy cried, the trickster died, Satan asked, “how could this lover man prevail?” I said, “it’s nothing against you it’s just a personal quest”

I was walkin’ down the street when I saw a man standing eight feet tall and he had eyes that stuck out like thumbs his coat was filled with lifeless things he walked like Treebeard from Lord of the Rings and he had no use for weapons of any kind says he a-mumbling: don’t be a fool and forget your name don’t be a tool and forget your money leave your sabertooth tigers at home and don’t put things where they don’t belong I was walkin’ down the street when I saw a man in uniform and he gave people fake things in real life he lived inside a can of beer and in many, many, many years he would build a bridge without lifting a finger says he a-mumbling: don’t be a fool and arrest a king or lose something precious like a diamond ring remember your place when you do something wrong and don’t put things where they don’t belong I was walking down the street and I saw this man and he walked kinda funny and he talked kinda funny too and he played a guitar solo that sounded sumthin like this . . . says he a-mumbling: don’t be a fool: the times are a-changin’ they’re movin’ around, they’re rearranging it’s all over now, baby blue don’t let that kind of thing bother you don’t be a fool and forget your name don’t be a tool and forget your money leave your sabertooth tigers at home and don’t put things where they don’t belong don't put things where they don't belong don't put things where they don't belong...

I’ve got a woman; she threw a basket into the sea she through a basket into the sea no one knows what’s in it but her and me and I’ve got a gun at the bottom of the stairs I got a gun at the bottom of the stairs my finger wraps around it when I’m scared now I’ve got a gun at the bottom of the sea I’ve got a gun at the bottom of the sea the ghost of its trigger still torments me god looks down on a man that sins god looks down on a man that sins I cry whenever I look up to him the people downtown say I’m gonna go to jail the people at the church say I’m gonna go to hell I’ll go with her in that same handbasket that fell I’ve got a woman; she threw a basket into the sea she through a basket into the sea no one knows what’s in it but you and me
